Our History

From Arattupuzha
to All of Kerala

The history of the Church of God in Kerala traces back to Rev. Robert Felix Cook and his pioneering work. In January 1914, after a four-day revival at Thuvayoor, sixty-three souls were baptised — establishing the very first Pentecostal church in India, which remains a Church of God congregation to this day.

In December 1923, the first General Convention of all Pentecostal Churches in India was held on the banks of the river Pampa at Arattupuzha — a gathering that united all Pentecostal missionaries and native ministers. Today, the State Headquarters at Mount Zion, Mulakuzha, Chengannur, oversees a flourishing network of over 1,200 local churches across all of Kerala.

Thuvayoor, January 1914. The congregation established at the very first Pentecostal revival in India — sixty-three baptised souls who became the seed of a movement that now spans all of Kerala and beyond.

Mt. Zion Bible College

Founded in 1922 as a humble Home Bible School, it grew into the fully accredited Mt. Zion Bible College — holding the 3rd grade level international accreditation of the Church of God Education Department.

First General Convention

December 1923, on the banks of the river Pampa at Arattupuzha — the first General Convention of all Pentecostal Churches in India, uniting all Pentecostal missionaries and native ministers as one body.

The FINISH Commitment

Kerala State Church of God has joined the global Church of God family in the FINISH Commitment — fulfilling the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19 to make disciples of all nations, beginning with Kerala's 337 lakh people.
